Corporate Profile
A Personal Commitment:
Rothschild's Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. was founded by Vernon Rothschild whose personal experience led to a commitment to create superior prosthetics. Vernon began working in prosthetics in 1965, shortly after the amputation of his left leg below the knee. He was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge. He then went to work for the prosthetic division of the Veterans Hospital in New York City.
In 1977, Vernon founded Rothschild's Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. in Forestville, Maryland. He was joined by John Fox, Orthotist/Prosthetist and later by his son Russell and his daughter Kelly, graduates of Florida International University. With the final addition of daughter Elizabeth, Rothschild's Orthopedics began its expansion into six locations
throughout the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia region.
Providing for Our Patients:
Locations
Today, Rothschild's Orthopedic Appliances, Inc. is a family owned and operated company, committed to providing the best in prosthetics. Our six offices in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia are convenient for local, as well as out-of-state and overseas patients. Prosthetics are fabricated in our central facility in Salisbury, Maryland.
Range of Services
We strive to meet amputees' needs for well fitting, lightweight and durable artificial limbs and braces. We evaluate, fit and fabricate prostheses for all levels of amputations including foot partials, symes, below-knee, knee disarticulation, above-knee and hip disarticulation, as well as upper extremity prosthesis, motor and body powered devices. In addition, we fabricate a full range of custom molded plastic and metal bracing for the lower extremities including ankle-foot-orthoses and knee-ankle-foot orthoses.
Research and Development
Driven by a commitment to our patients, we consistently fund research and development of state-of-the-art prosthesis and orthotic devices. In 1992, we received a patent on our Light-Pro prosthetic system -- a below-knee prosthesis, 40 - 60% lighter than most conventional artificial limbs. And, as of 1998 we offer our patented Natural Foot Orthosis -- a plastic molded foot-drop splint designed to allow the natural range of motion of the foot and ankle while preventing foot-drop.
